Subsidy removal: We are suffering – Jigawa residents tell Governor Namadi

Jigawa State residents have urged Governor Umar Namadi to implement some of his palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on citizens.

Some of the residents made the call while reacting to the recent hardship following the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

They urged the state government to activate all its plans to reduce the suffering of the common man in the state.

Malam Sani a resident of Dutse, the state capital asked the government to focus on areas that directly affect the residents including transportation, empowerment, agriculture, health, and education.

He said, “Due to the current hardship, some people now spend days without cooking anything in their homes, small businesses are grounded while transportation business has been paralyzed, causing absenteeism at work.”

GISTS VILLA reported that Jigawa State civil servants had begged the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, to consider a reduction in state official working days or provide means of transportation to reduce workers suffering for effective service delivery.

Malam Kabir,u a resident of Birnin Kudu advised the state government to consider the state poverty situation and come up with workable solutions to problems.

“Is like what we saw in some of our neighbouring states of Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Ebonyi states, Jigawa State government should consider the poverty level of the state even before the subsidy removal and urgently implement its palliative plans before it’s too late”

“Jigawa is supposed to be the first, second or third in the activation of its action plans for its citizens not to depend on the Federal Government’s plans alone”

Governor Umar Namadi, speaking with BBC HAUSA Service lamented that the citizens are suffering due to the fuel subsidy removal.

He said the state government is Woking to provide measures that will minimize the sufferings of its citizens.

He explained apart from the federal government’s plans, the state government had also subsidized fertilizer and other farming implements to boost food production in the state.

“We have subsidized fertilizer from N26,000 to N16,000 and we have also taken adequate strategies to ensure only the real farmers benefit”

“Also part of our plans is the youth and women empowerment programs to mitigate fuel subsidy removal” Governor Namadi stated.
