Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested three suspects who during an attack at a Corpers’ Lodge in Sagbama area of the state, chopped off a corper’s hand.
The arrest of the suspects who chopped off the hand of the corper, identified as Luntis Julius from Taraba State, was made possible by the indigenes of the community who were shocked by the dastardly act.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Astimin Butswat, who gave the name of the arrested suspects as Mosan Youdougha, 22; Godswill Vincent, 21; saying that the third suspect is yet to be handed over to the Police, further disclosed that an investigation is ongoing to arrest the fourth suspect involved in the attack of the Corpers Lodge.
The suspects reportedly stole a laptop and two mobile phones from the corper, whose hand they chopped off.
This report of a corper’s hand getting chopped off in a robbery attack, is coming few months after a 30-year-old corps member was shot dead by armed robbers, who dispossessed him of his money and other valuables in Yenagoa, Bayelsa.
The Police Public Relations Officer at the Bayelsa Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, who spoke to newsmen after the attack, said preliminary investigation showed that the killing was cult related, adding that a detailed investigation was ongoing to unravel those behind the dastardly act and apprehend them.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening on Melford Okilo Road, INEC/Kpansia area of Yenagoa metropolis. The victim, Samuel Collins, was a graduate of Engineering from the University of Benin.
Collins was accosted by the hoodlums at INEC Road junction on his way to the Nigerian Content Development and Management Board’s office on Isaac Boro Expressway, where he was undergoing training.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the young man was gunned down when he tried to drag his phones and valuables with his assailants. The eyewitness, who wished anonymity, said Collins was shot by the gunmen at a close range on his head.
