Chief of Staff of Adamawa Speaker abducted

Usman Sahabi, Chief of Staff of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, and Wesley Bathiye have been kidnapped.

Gits Villa learned that Sahabi, a reporter with Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, ABC, was forcefully taken out of his residence about 1 a.m. on Thursday.

The reporter, who had covered the Assembly for years, had lived in his residence in Wuro-Chekke, in Yola South Local Government Area, for many years before he was whisked away by the yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

A family source said the kidnappers had called and demanded N20 million.

“Five gunmen stormed his house about 1:00 this morning and forcefully made their way into his room, where they whisked him away at gunpoint,” the source said in a telephone chat.

However, the Adamawa State Police Command has vowed to rescue the journalist.

The state police public relations officer, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, said the state command had deployed all its operational assets to ensure the rescue.

“We have deployed our operational manpower, and we are working round the clock to ensure that the abducted journalist is rescued alive.

“We have not rested on our oars since we learned about the incident and are giving the criminals a hot chase till we rescue the journalist alive and apprehend the perpetrators,” Nguroje said during a telephone conversation.

“DC Operations has finished coordinating all rescue efforts and wishes to assure his safe return to his family,” Nguroje assured.
