Banditry: Zamfara govt, Arewa coalition disagree over call for state of emergency

The Zamfara State Government has described the call for a State of Emergency in the state over banditry by the Coalition of Arewa Activist Group Calls as hypocritical

The Chairman of Activist Coalition Group, Thrahim Muazzam, had in a Communique, after a meeting in Kano, called on President Tinubu and the legislature to consider declaring a state of emergency in Zamfara State to rescue from banditry and impending disaster.

But in a quick reaction to the calls, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Suleiman Bala, reminded the group that the security of lives and properties lies with the federal government and more so now that the former governor of the state Bello Matawale is the Minister of Defense.

In an interview with our correspondent, Bala said in the last four years of the Matawale administration, insecurity was more amplified but days after the swearing-in of the new government, drastic measures were taken to address the problems.

Recall that the Coalition had claimed that a State of Emergency became necessary because no effective security measure is possible without an able leadership willing, ready and sincere to collaborate with the federal government and other stakeholders to address the problem.

The Activist Coalition Group had said, “Without synergy and cooperation there will be no time for a successful campaign against insecurity in the state. We urge the federal executives and legislature to put any political consideration and sensitivity aside and act decisively in order to rescue Zamfara state from the imminent destruction it is heading”.

But Governor Dauda’s Special Adviser on Media, Suleiman, claims the government has done wonderfully well with the establishment of special squads that would be responsible for the Security of the State.

“I think although our Governor is the Chief Security officer, however, he cannot direct the Military or Police who are answerable to Abuja but his efforts geared to the security of lives and properties is never relaxed, there’s no doubt about that”

Suleiman insisted that the Governor only complimented the federal government in the provision of security, which is why he created a Community Protection Guard now undergoing recruitment across the State.

He further alleged that those who are attacking the PDP government were bankrolled to carry out their assignment.
