Adamawa: SEC approves N39bn supplementary budget in maiden meeting

The Adamawa State Executive Council, SEC, in its first meeting Thursday, after inauguration of new commissioners, approved a supplementary state budget proposal of N39bn.

The proposal is to be sent to the state House of Assembly for scrutiny and possible approval.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had inaugurated his cabinet Thursday morning by having his nominated commissioners sworn in, after which he and the commissioners commenced the SEC meeting.

The Commissioner of Education, Umar Garba Pella, who briefed newsmen shortly after the meeting, said the council gave the approval in view of emerging needs and anticipated revenue increase from the proceeds of fuel subsidy removal.
Pella, who was the Commissioner of Information in Fintiri’s first term, explained, “The council decided to expand the budget basket of the state to accommodate the increment of over N39b, bringing the new appropriation (for the 2023 fiscal year) to N214.3bn.”

Governor Fintiri had, in December last year, signed into law a N175bn budgetary Bill for the 2023 fiscal year

The bill was passed by the state House of Assembly, which had earlier in November 2022 received the 2023 budgetary proposal from Fintiri.

Fintiri had on November 25, 2022, laid before the lawmakers what he called Budget of Consolidation, a total of N175,019,054,060 comprising recurrent expenditure proposal of N105,011,432,436 or 60 percent of the total proposal, and capital anticipated expenditure of N70,007,621624 or 40 percent of total budgetary proposal.
