Akor longs to play for the Super Eagles in the AFCON.
Jerome Akor is determined to earn a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Akor has impressed for Ligue 1 club Montpellier this season following his arrival from Norwegian outfit Lillestrom in the summer.
The 23-year-old has scored seven goals in nine league appearances for La Paillade.
Gatecrashing into the Super Eagles AFCON squad will be a difficult task, with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, Terem Moffi, and Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of him in the pecking order.
Akor has, however, vowed to keep fighting to be part of the squad for Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
“The national team is the dream of every boy who grew up in his country, and for me, it’s also the same, but right now I think it’s still one, two months away,” Akor told a press conference ahead of Montpellier’s Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
“The games in Montpellier are my biggest focus, and that will come when it comes, and then we’ll see with the club.”
