No fewer than ten persons were on Friday night killed as Fulani herdsmen attacked two villages in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government of Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the suspected herdsmen invaded Dangaji and Ungwan Gajere villages and unleashed terror on residents.

According to an eyewitness, the attacks lasted for hours as the suspected herdsmen moved from one village to another, killing and burning houses.

“It is unfortunate that since Friday night we have encountered the attack of herdsmen in Dangaji village. They were shooting and burning houses and people had to run for their lives.

“Again this early morning (Saturday), they went to another village, Kutemechi in Unguwan Gajere and killed about nine men.

“The last victim was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital. All the villagers have fled and scattered into other communities where they can find shelter.

“The victims have been taken to the general hospital in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.”

However, The spokesperson for the state command, ASP Aliyu Mukhtar, who confirmed the incident said only five persons were killed by the attackers.

Muktar said those killed were local vigilantes in the areas, adding that the police in a joint operation with the military were currently on manhunt for the attackers.

“There was an attack yesterday, Friday night; five persons were killed. Those killed are mostly the village vigilantes.”

He said the police and the military were collaborating on a manhunt for the attackers.
