Princess Kelechi Oghene has spoken about the importance of complementing good looks with the brains in her latest parley with a journalist.

Princess Kelechi Oghene, who alongside Sandra Okagbue (Flavour’s baby mama) hit the limelight when they became the face of Delta Soap, has said that any beautiful lady without brains is nothing.
The model-turned-designer said she encouraged young ladies to leverage on their talents in order not to become a liability.
“A lot of girls don’t want to work. It is not all about beauty. Beauty without brains is nothing. When you are not intelligent, people will abuse you and you will become desperate and that is when people will even take advantage of you. They will think you are loose. When they see you can call your own shots, they will respect you more.”
Talking about how she became the   Face of Delta Soap, Princess said it was just fate and grace that made her become the brand ambassador.
“I didn’t plan to become the face of Delta Soap. I met some girls who were going to the interview and audition and I was mobile then. I already had a shop. So they said I should take them to Orange Drugs for an audition. I readily agreed because I just wanted to see the models and how they would be chosen as the face of the brand.

“When we got there, the girls went in for the audition while I waited for them in the lobby. I think the boss saw me on the CCTV and asked who I was. He requested that I should be brought in. I have always been plump and the impression I had was that models are usually slim. I didn’t think I could be chosen for such.  Anyway, I went in and he interviewed me. I was even sarcastic in my responses.

“Anyway, I was eventually chosen and interestingly, the girls I took there were not taken. And since then, I have remained the face of Delta for four consecutive years,” she said.
Even as a model, Princess’ main passion is fashion designing and she said she got that from her mother who was a seamstress.
While informing Saturday Beats that she has never done a nine to five job, the Lagos State University graduate said she has been in business for over 10 years.
“I never did a nine to five job. By the end of this year, I would have been 12 years in business. I finished from Lagos State University but I was still doing business even while schooling. I studied Business Management in school. Regular job for me is a no-no.  I had to go to school because my mother insisted. If anybody had told me I would be feeding from fashion, I may not have believed it.”
She also said it hasn’t been easy combining her job with her family.
“I love what I do with a passion. This is more than love, it is even life. I try to balance my home and what I do. But I thank God I have been able to survive and manage. I have realised that you cannot balance it but you take it one day at a time. When you are at the office, you give it your best shot and when at home, you also give it your best shot.”
Also a philanthropist and with her GMYT Foundation, Princess said it was part of her activities to give back to the society.
“It got to a point where people were coming and I felt that God has blessed me, so it was time for me to give back.  Before you know it, people started coming and we started expanding. This brand has got so big that even when I am not here, it will still exist. The academy will always train people for free.  I tell girls to come and learn a skill. People are making money from make-ups and even from beads and making of wigs.  Just try and do something. That is why I try to accommodate as many people as I can in the academy.

“We do fashion shows and we are doing one this December. The show is basically for our students. That is one of the benefits they get. We help our students launch their brand officially.  We have about 20 designers on the runway this December,” she said.
